Building a skilled workforce for the future
|
|
|
| The role you play |
|
As an employer, you have a vital role to play in developing a work-related learning culture in our schools.
It doesn't matter how many plans and schemes WE develop to provide students with real, hands-on experience of the workplace; without YOUR active support in providing those work placements, activities and other learning experiences, all that planning means nothing.
TWEBLO relies on the support of over 10,000 businesses throughout Tyne & Wear - large, medium and small.
Every company - from multi-national corporations through to the smallest micro-business - each and every one can make a vital contribution. This is one area where size really doesn't matter!

| What can you offer? |
|
Work Experience Scheme
Connexions Tyne & Wear match suitable students with suitable employers or students themselves may organise their placements direct. Work experience broadens young people's horizons, increases self-confidence and helps them to develop new skills and improves their career management ability.
Most students in Tyne & Wear undertake a one or two week placement before they are sixteen. Many who stay on at school or attend further education colleges undertake further placements, especially if they are following a vocational programme.

|
| What can your company do? |
|
Providing work placements for students is a tried, tested, valuable - and popular activity. Offering short placements to teachers also has enormous value. But there is so much more you can get involved in. Opportunities are there for you to send your staff into schools to inject an element of reality into the curriculum. You may wish to participate in careers events, or you may wish to invite students and teachers to visit your premises.
The opportunities to get involved are as flexible as you are - and the TWEBLO team are here to smooth the way, to make your involvement as rewarding and problem-free as possible.

|
| What is in it for you? |
|
You may ask - what's in it for me? The answers are simple:
| • |
Your involvement with students demonstrates your commitment to education - and to the community in which you operate, recruit from and do business with. |
| • |
Your involvement enhances your reputation with your own workforce - after all, many of your employees are parents, and they want their sons and daughters to have the best available opportunities. |
| • |
Members of your team who get involved learn valuable, transferable skills; skills they can bring back to the workplace, for their benefit - and yours. |
| • |
Longer term, you stand to benefit from the increasingly 'work-aware' young people who will be your workforce in the future. |
